- Review the detected metadata.
- Press Remove and download the clean copies.
What Remove Metadata does
Reads each file’s metadata blocks, lists what they contain, and writes a copy without them. The compressed image data is copied unchanged, so quality is untouched.
When to use it
- Before posting photos publicly or selling items online.
- Before sending photos taken at home.
Good to know
- Removed: EXIF (camera, date, GPS location, thumbnail), XMP, IPTC, comments and PNG text chunks.
- The rotation flag is kept, so photos still appear the right way up.
- Color profiles (ICC) are kept so colors don’t shift.
- JPG and PNG: our tests confirm the image data in the output is byte-identical to the input. WebP: metadata chunks are removed the same way, at the byte level, without re-encoding.
Privacy
Your files are processed inside your browser and not uploaded to any server. Closing or refreshing the page clears them. We don’t keep copies.
Limitations
- JPG, PNG and WebP. HEIC files aren’t supported yet.
Frequently asked questions
Does this reduce quality?
No. The image data isn’t re-encoded; only the metadata blocks are left out.
Do social networks remove metadata anyway?
Many do, but not all, and messaging apps or email often keep it. Removing it yourself is the reliable option.
What exactly is removed?
EXIF and XMP metadata: camera make and model, lens, exposure settings, dates, editing software and GPS location. In our example, 61 hidden fields became 0. The color profile is kept so colors look the same.
Does it work on PNG and WebP too?
Yes. JPG, PNG and WebP are all supported, and the image data is copied without re-encoding.
