How to use the crop box

Drag the blue box to move your selection, and drag the small circle in its bottom-right corner to resize it. Whatever's inside the box when you click "Crop & download" is exactly what gets exported — everything else is discarded.

Composing a better crop

Cropping is often the fastest way to improve a photo — pulling in tighter around the subject removes distracting background clutter and draws attention exactly where you want it. A common rule of thumb is placing your subject roughly a third of the way into the frame rather than dead center, which tends to look more natural and considered than a perfectly centered crop.

If you need a specific aspect ratio rather than a free-form crop, the dedicated Square, 16:9 and 4:5 crop tools apply that ratio automatically as you drag, which is faster than eyeballing the proportions yourself with a free crop.

Everything happens as you drag

This tool draws the crop selection live on top of your image using the Canvas API, so you see exactly what will be kept as you adjust the box, rather than committing to a crop and finding out afterward whether it worked. That immediate feedback makes it much easier to fine-tune the framing before exporting.
