How to make a photo collage

How photos are cropped to fit

Each cell in the grid is a fixed square, and every photo is center-cropped to fill that square completely, the same way a profile picture crop works. This keeps the grid perfectly even, at the cost of trimming the edges of photos that aren't already square.

Getting a balanced-looking grid

Collages tend to look most balanced when the photos you feed in share a similar overall brightness and color tone — mixing a very dark photo next to several bright ones can make the grid feel uneven even if the layout itself is perfectly symmetric. Cropping your source photos to consistent proportions beforehand, using the Crop Image or Crop to Square tool, also helps each tile fill its slot cleanly instead of being cropped unpredictably by the collage layout.
